Looking for any confessional Lutherans in the NYC area who'd like to get together for prayer, study, and fellowship.

I'm surprised I haven't found any of Luther's comments regarding his treatises entitled, "On The Jews And Their Lies." In it Luther called the Jews "venomoous," "bitter worms," and "disgusting vermin"; he asserted that they were all thieves and should be deported to Palestine. He made numerous suggestions concerning treatment of the Jewish people throughout the treatise. This has caused extreme bitterness among my people. What are Lutherans doing today to help spread the gospel message of Yeshua HaMoshiach (Jesus the Messiah) among the Jewish people? I've enjoyed reading your articles on your website.

As confessional Christians of the Lutheran persuasion from the time of Luther and Chemnitz to Pieper and Preus the main focus of our faith has been and always will be our Lord Jesus Christ. That is what the Lutheran Confessions, as contained in the Book of Concord, 1580, takes great pains to stress. With the rapid disintegration of main line Christian Denominations, we of the LC-MS owe a debt of gratitude to our professors in both seminaries and like minded people such as yourself who continue to express their faith in still timely and meaningful historic terms. Thank you for the excellent site ,as we are thirsty for God's word and long for the view through Confessional glasses. We in So. CA, are in a land lacking the desire to wear the name Lutheran, much less uphold the Lutheran Confessions. My husband and I came back to the Lutheran Church just a few years ago, after having left the theology of non-denominational evangelical churches. Among other things, we are sadend by the desire of many Lutherans to become more like the churches we left, as well as the lack of orthodoxy that is plaguing our Synod. Interesting to hear from the confessional side of the Lutheran church. Gave me some things to think about.

Thanks to Rev. Schoesow for his writing on Holy Communion. Most of the articles here are enlightening, but I find it bewildering how some of them and some Lutherans who visit here are so frightened by changes within the LCMS. I have yet to see a pastor throw out the creeds, and I don't see how contemporaneity (music, etc.) is a threat. Luther advocated hymns be put to music of his day. I made some comments previously here that were valid, but I sounded quite rude..Sorry! I love the creeds, the confessions, the Sacraments, and Scripture, but I don't feel that we lose those by contemporizing to reach our beloved brethren who have not found Christ yet. I like the site, and I am Lutheran by the true standards. I just find it sad that, in such a vulgar, immoral society, we are not all concerned about reaching the lost. Trust me, they will usually not come solely on your terms, with no effort on your part. Thanks for the site!

We read the Lutheran Fathers (great stuff), left the Reformed 'faith'only to walk into some of the greater shocks of our life. Well it is not all lost as this site proves it. I think Pastor Rolf Preus' article lays a great foundation for the rest of the fine articles here.

This is tremendous to be able to join together with other confessional Lutherans at a time when so many of us are fighting confessional battles within our own congregations. It becomes rather easy to feel a bit overwhelmed and outnumbered when taking on those who want to change the church and conform it to what "society" would like it to be, or to make ourselves more "attractive" to our unchurched culture! As if this were our purpose! Have we lost faith in the word of God to bring us and those around us to Himself? He has given us His word, and we still continually want to go out and find our own way to "bring" people to God! God bless. I read your "Thesis on Evangelism" with great interest. Wow Robin!!! It is extremely important to "get the message straight", as Dr. Barry says. I just hope that we spend an equal amount of time, "getting the message out", not just from our pulpits, but person to person. We can't get too paranoid about some unbeliever damaging the truth. After all, it is the Lord's church, isn't it? His truth will stand.

Way to go, Robin. As a novice on the internet, I enjoy finding good stuff to read. It is also heartening to find so many confessional Lutherans in Holy Mother Missouri. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all join together in some kind of confessional orthodox Synod or association of synods? What do you all think? Will Missouri break up?

Searching for trends because my church has gone the contemporary (non-denominatiol) route in the second service. Like a cancer, it is spreading into all areas.

I thoroughly enjoy this site, in particular because of the struggle in which I am currently involved, namely, that our board of elders has great difficulty (if they have not expressed their displeasure to me) accepting the spiritual headship of the man, the order of creation, etc., as taught in the Word. I covet your prayers as I try to deal with us as evangelically and as patiently as possible.
