PREFACE

This little work is the result of more than fifteen years of the study and teaching of Biblical and dogmatic theology in a Lutheran theological seminary. It is not intended to be a general work on theology, or to cover an extensive field of theological discussion, but to present only such doctrines as have so far not received universal consensus among Lutheran theologians, authors, and pastors.

This work deals for the most part with the interpretation of doctrines held by the Lutheran Church. It is offered, not in a controversial or dogmatic spirit, but with the hope that it may prove helpful in bringing about a clearer conception of the doctrines treated, and of what is involved in them. The author, however, feels that the positions taken are sound and Biblical, and in full harmony with the Confessional principles of the Evangelical Lutheran Church; and trusts that this contribution will be clarifying upon many points, and that its perusal will prove beneficial to many in strengthening them in our sound Lutheran faith. May this booklet contribute to the glory of God, and may His blessing attend its publication.

C. H. LITTLE,
Professor of Dogmatic and Systematic Theology
in the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary of Canada.
